McGill is seeking its next Leader of Legal Affairs. Sitting on the University’s executive team and reporting directly to McGill’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, you will be responsible for leading the legal function and protecting the legal interests of the institution, while supervising a team of eight lawyers and three administrative and support staff.
On a day-to-day basis, you will act as a strategic advisor to McGill’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor, senior management, the legal team, and University departments. You will be directly and actively involved in a wide range of matters, including governance, internal policies, interpretation of legislation affecting the conduct of the University’s business, real estate and construction law, commercial law, administrative law, and principles of natural justice, labour and employment law issues, etc. You will become familiar with both student issues and those involving Indigenous recognition as well as the protection of intellectual property and access to information. Your expertise will also be called upon when disputes arise, and you will work with external advisors when required.
Are you a member of the Quebec Bar, bilingual, and have at least 15 years of relevant experience? Do you have reflexes in various areas of law, a developed team approach, an executive presence and are known for your tact, your power of influence, and your ability to find quick, effective, and practical solutions?
