Our client, Marcan Pharmaceuticals Inc., is a pharmaceutical company actively involved in the development, marketing, sales and distribution of branded and generic pharmaceutical products for the Canadian market. Based in Ottawa, Marcan currently manufactures and distributes a variety of drugs covering a wide range of therapeutic categories through numerous dosage forms. Marcan is a subsidy of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd., a leading Indian pharmaceutical company.

To better meet its needs in Canada, Marcan is now seeking a Director of Legal Affairs to lead and establish its legal function within its Canadian arm of operations. In this newly-created role, the Director of Legal Affairs will serve as the first and only in-house lawyer, and will report to the President & COO and the CEO of Marcan, with a dotted line to Emcure’s General Counsel.

On a daily basis, you will advise senior management on how to best protect the company’s business interests, manage legal risks and participate in business development projects. You will negotiate and draft a variety of commercial contracts, from customer to supplier agreements, establish a contract management system, and ensure compliance with the legal and regulatory frameworks. You will manage litigation with external counsel as necessary, and provide guidance on intellectual property matters.

Do you have 5 to 8 years of relevant experience, particularly with contracts and licensing, gained at either a renowned company or major law firm? If you are solution-oriented, with strong business acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit, we would like to speak with you. You must be called to the Bar of a Canadian province to qualify.
